WHAT IS AN EYE AM INITIATION?
The Eye Am Initiation is a requirement for all new clients. It is a specialised pre-service consultation prior to any cut or colour. This is to ensure our stylists get to know exactly what you want and the best possible cut/colour/or treatment for your hair. The 20 minute one on one consultation will give you a good education on your hairs needs, and ensure you get the best individual results for you and your hairs. Your hair health is SO important to us, and so are the results that you want and desire. This consultation ensures we create something that is mutually good for your hair but also makes you look amazing!
Prior to getting a big change such as a perm, you may be required to book in an Eye Am Initiation. This is to ensure the best safety for your hair and to make sure we do not damage your beautiful hair.
The Eye Am Initiation is also a good opportunity to get to know the stylist and find the right stylist for your personal needs and for your hairs needs. In some cases, a client may not be the right fit for the salon and may not proceed with a further booking.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A STRAIGHT CUT & A DRY CUT?
A Dry Cut is a spruce up, freshen, or trim of your existing style- basically a smarten up of the look you’re currently rocking. The Dry Cut comes with the option of a small changeup of your current style, and is an hour in length. It does not include a wash.
The Straight Cut is for you if you’re after a style overhaul. Always wanted to lob your long locks into a playful pixie cut? Fancy cutting your straight cut into a textured, shaggy mullet? Always wanted to rock a fringe and layers? The Straight Cut allows an hour and 15 minutes for us to transform your mane into the masterpiece of your dreams. Your hairs will be whipped into a showstopper of a ‘do, treated to a revitalising hair bath and hair treatment mask, and an invigorating scalp massage. Finally, you’ll be dried, styled, and your transformation will be complete! **Hot tip: make it a Mystery Mane and surrender your mop to your stylist as a blank canvas, and enjoy your surprise reveal at the end.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A STRAIGHT CUT & A CURLY CUT?
The Straight cut is for straight hair, or for clients who wear their hair straight 95% of the time. By contrast, a specialist curly cut from one of our curl experts is a cut that is designed to specifically cater for curls. Instead of the typical haircut where the hair is either cut wet or spritzed down, we cut curly hair dry. We also cut curl by curl, which results in multiple lengths of your curl clumps so that they sit as naturally as possible. We use products developed for straight hair on our straight-haired clients, and products specifically developed for curly hair on our curly haired clients. Instead of the blow dry that is typically used to finish straight hair, we diffuse dry curly hair using a specialised soft diffuser which helps to retain moisture and preserve curl formation.
WHY ARE THE HAIRCUTS PRICED AS THEY ARE?
Our haircuts are priced according to hairdresser experience. The cheapest option is with our Emerging Curly Cutters, and then followed by our Emerging Stylists, Specialists and then experts. If you book in with one of our Emerging Stylists or Curly cutters, they will be shadowed by a specialist or expert to ensure you get the best results.
Your experience at Eye Am Hair is a one-on-one, customised, individual service. Our stylists have been specially selected for their elite skills and experience in the industry, so you can be assured that you are receiving the highest calibre of service. Your stylist also maintains an up-to-date and ever-expanding skill set. Our vision is to revolutionise the way the conventional, mainstream salon environment operates, so most of our fabulous stylists are contractors, which means that they attend the salon specifically for your appointment. There are no sneaky haircuts with other clients squeezed in during your appointment time, and you have the undivided attention of your stylist. Finally, we use the highest quality organic, biodynamic, toxin-free, ammonia-free, cruelty free, vegan products on your hair and scalp to ensure that your visit is a holistic self-care experience that focuses on your mind as well as your body.
WHAT DOES THE CURLY CUT INVOLVE?
Firstly, your stylist will get you settled in with a nourishing herbal tea, coffee, or an ice-cold local G&T before having a good chat to you about your curly crowning glory and your hair goals and dreams. You can show your curly hair inspo pics, and you’ll have a chance to discuss your consultation form, which you will have filled out prior to your appointment. Next, your stylist will have a squiz at your curls and get snipping. We use a combination of the Curly Hair Method, the Devacurl method, and the techniques developed by our Salon Director and Curly Girl, Chelsea. We cut curly hair dry, and we cut curl by curl. This allows the curls to retain their formations and layers, and gives the most natural result when the hair is sitting in its regular position. After your cut, your stylist will treat you and your mane to a revitalising cowash or cleanse and an invigorating scalp massage using our specialty range of curl products. Your curls will be loaded with curl-loving hydration and styling products, then diffuse dried using a curly hair friendly soft diffuser which is designed to direct heat to the curls without breaking up your amazing curl definition. Your stylist might ask you to pop your hair forward or back to help dry your curls in their natural direction. Your new ‘do will be revealed, and your stylist will take care of any little snips and tweaks to fine-tune your look. Be prepared to reach your full curly potential and turn heads wherever your curls may be.
WHAT IS A COWASH?
We’re glad you asked. Co-washing is a curly hair method of cleansing the hair and scalp. You can cowash using a Curly Hair Method approved cleanser, or conditioner. Cleanser is sometimes known as a low-poo or no-poo, meaning that it either has very low foam, or does not foam at all. Cleanser is more like a cleansing crème which is used to clean the scalp and roots. Apply your cleanser or conditioner and work the product into the scalp and roots as you would with shampoo. It can take a little getting used to, we know- after all, most soaps and shampoos foam. Foam and sulphates strip the hair of moisture, and curly hair is very thirsty. Using a curl-friendly cleanser or conditioner to cowash will strip away dirt and buildup, but not the moisture in the hair. Rinse thoroughly, and follow with conditioner (often a heavier conditioner that the one you use to co-wash), applying through your mid-lengths and ends. Finish by rinsing only 50% of the conditioner and refrain from squeezing excess moisture out. Your hair should feel slippery- think slimy seaweed! Finally, step out of the shower, apply your styling products (conditioner/curl cream/foam/gel), and follow with air drying, partial diffuse drying with a curl-friendly diffuser, or plopping- which leads us to the next question…
WHAT IS PLOPPING?
Plopping is a great curly hair method to remove excess moisture from wet hair without compromising curl definition or stripping too much water out. After washing your curls and applying your styling products, grab an old cotton t-shirt, flip your curls upside down, and loosely tie the tshirt around your curls, like a headscarf. Some curly folk like to partially dry their curls using this method; others love the volume that they get by letting their mane fully dry in the tshirt before removing it.
WHAT PRODUCTS DO WE USE IN THE SALON?
We use Oway, SOPHIC and Clever Curl products.
Oway products are luxurious organic, biodynamic, free trade, ammonia free, cruelty free, and vegan. Oway’s colours are ammonia free. We use the Oway bleach butter- a gentle, organic alternative to conventional powder bleach; the Oway bleach butter is almost odourless, has no powder residue, and is less stressful on the hair.
Oway products are made in Italy and are packaged in recycled (and infinitely recyclable) and refillable amber glass bottles and jars. We also stock the Oway range in salon, and we refill with a 10% discount.
Clever Curl products are specially designed to cleanse, nourish, and style curly hair. They are Curly Hair Method friendly, cruelty free, vegan, made in Australia, and are packaged in recycled, refillable plastic bottles. We stock the Clever Curl range in salon, and we offer refills for a 10% discount.
SOPHIC is a certified Australian-owned company established in 2019 by the same team behind Australia and New Zealand’s largest niche distributor specialising in sustainable options for professional hair and beauty salons, Eco Salon Supplies. Sophic is a group of forward-thinking individuals demanding change within the hair and beauty industry who also share a love for our country. The love and respect Sophic has for country fuels their purpose to change your perception of hair care and foster an appreciation for Australia.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET MY HAIRCUT?
It’s different for everyone! Your stylist will recommend the ideal time frame between cuts for your individual hair type and style, but it’s generally between 6-8 weeks. Shorter styles, fast growing hair, and fringes often need maintenance appointments, which is why we offer our fringe trim service and the zhuzing haircut. If you’re growing your hair longer, you might be able to stretch your cuts to 12 weeks.
WHY DO YOU NEED MY CREDIT CARD DETAILS?
When booking online, by phone, or in person here at the salon, you’ll be asked for your credit card details. This will not only enable us to secure your booking- it will also ensure the sustainability of our small business. The only charge that we will apply to your card will be a cancellation fee should you cancel your appointment with less than 48 hours notice. We will securely store your information, your card details are stored masked on our booking system, and we will never share your information with a third party. You will still pay for your service manually as normal in the salon; we never charge your service to your card on record.
WHAT IS THE CURLY HAIR METHOD?
The Curly Hair Method is a lifestyle! A combination of specialist curly cutting methods and home care routine comprise the Curly Hair Method. In the salon, your individual curls are cut one by one using a combination of the Devacurl method, Curly Hair Method, and techniques developed by our Director, Chelsea. In the salon and at home, specialty curly hair products are used to cowash, hydrate, condition, and style your hair. Curly hair is partially diffuse dried using a curl-friendly soft diffuser, or using techniques such as plopping.
DO YOU SPECIALISE IN BOTH CURLY AND STRAIGHT HAIR?
Yes we do! All of our stylists are fully trained and experienced straight hair and curly hair specialists.
DO YOU SELL THE PRODUCTS YOU USE IN THE SALON?
We sure do- from the gorgeous Oway product range, the amazing Clever Curl product range, the professional curl-friendly soft diffusers, and the YesHair Flexibrushes and Hair Cozys, we stock ‘em all. We’ve even got sachets in the Clever Curl product range so that you can try a selection at home before deciding on which products work best for you. Loved what we used on your mane in the salon? Grab some for yourself! The best bit? We offer a 10% discount on all Oway and Clever Curl refills.
WHEN ARE TRAINING DAYS, WHAT CAN I BOOK IN & WHAT IS THE DISCOUNT?
Training days are held every last Thursday of the month. The services offered are only services that our emerging stylists feel they need more practise in, or our expert stylists would like to refine their skills with. This will change regularly depending on the level of our emerging stylists, so if you would like to book in for a training day, it is best to call the salon on 0488998802, or email contact@eyeamhair.com to find out what services are offered. All services on training day are 30% off the full price of the service. Every service will be overseen and guided by our expert stylists, who have excellent skills and knowledge for the service you have booked in.
CAN I BOOK A SERVICE ON A TRAINING DAY THAT MY STYLIST IS ALREADY COMPETENT AT & DO I RECEIVE THE 30% DISCOUNT?
No. The 30% is offered exclusively to clients who book the preferred nominated Training Day Services, and in services that need to be practiced by the stylist. It is discounted because the stylist isn't fully competent yet and the client knows this. The Thursday training days once a month are kept clear for 30% off services, so other services don't get booked in there. In some cases we will consider booking you in on a training day, but if the stylist is competent at your service, you will not receive the discount.
